Having read a bunch of ‘tour riders," they used to be basic, easy to read, and simple to accommodate the demands of most entertainers. Then, one day, perhaps it was VanHalen and the brown M&M’s? It either became a competition of sorts, or someone started adding “diva” to the drinking water?
Perhaps that is when the rider demands went from common sense sanity with a few frills thrown in to the world where the market allowed diva behavior and a rider is now a list mainly of frills and little common sense thrown in.
While i can try to Imagine Ex President Clinton's "tour rider" demands (do i even want to mentally go there?) but who knew Hillary Clinton was such a rock star of public speaking?
I can only imagine what the actual cost, in addition to the fee paid to show up and speak for a wee bit actually are?
I realize that the life Mrs. Clinton leads has huge time demands, she was always on the road as secretary of state, and before she probably runs for president she is keeping busy with planning sessions and does the speaking gigs for some quick pocket money. Not a bad gig for a not-for-profit speaking engagement.
Then again, these costs and demands she has to are a drop in the bucket compared to the $1.4 billion it cost to run the white house each year under president Obama. One can easily defend the fee with relation to the scale of operation.
for giggles, i broke it up to the rediculous and figured out what Mrs Clinton's annual salary would be if she made that hourly rate for a 40 hour work week. ready? $468,000,000.00 per year.
That would indeed make Mrs. Clinton the worlds top grossing rock star almost four times over from 2013's box office queen - Madonna. Who knew?
The best tour rider on the planet is from Iggy Pop and the stooges. http://www.iggypop.org/stoogesrider.html go ahead and read it. Maybe you need the “this is spinal tap” chromosome to understand the humor, but this is what a tour rider actually looks like – albeit, Iggy Pop’s is indeed in a class all its own.
Imagine if Iggy got elected president?
There is no guarantee the country would work any better, but it certainly would be more interesting to wake up and wonder what might happen each day? what will all that fun cost?
