Yesterday I got to catch up with a friend from Canada who is visiting her mother. Logistically, it was easiest to start and meet at a shopping mall of all places. I really haven’t been out of the medieval village I am in very much, so I was taken with all the hyped colorization of the graphics of displays and the overall really nice design of the merchandising and window displays.
Walking by all the nicely displayed and well lit displays, I thought, “all this effort, to sell more stuff.” It is universal in that it really doesn’t matter where on the planet you are, people are selling stuff in markets. The difference might simply be the quality of the stuff and the way it is presented.
What caught my attention the most was a simple idea of using satellite photos to make giant walk spaces in all the malls atriums where the local area was available for everyone to walk over, find their house, see the airport, etc. I found the arena we would do shows in years ago.
It was such a simple idea that was beautifully executed. From above, signs of the local villages pointed down to location and landmarks. At the ground level, kids and people all walked along, getting a Gulliver’s travel perspective of being able to walk over the space they live.
I was smitten at the idea. I took photos to send to my art friends. They will appreciate it.
It was a good use of high-resolution satellite imagery. It also demonstrated by the various use of static images and posters…the contrast between Europe, Switzerland, and the local towns.
Then I went into the apple store and found an interesting digitizing stylus called the equal – smartpen2.
I am looking at the abobe, this and other pens…. but no one has the answer, “which digitizer and you use with a actual paper and sketchbooks that works flawlessly to import everything. My problem is that I don’t want an ipad…but if it is the best solution for digitizing and taking sketches (ideally I want the paper and tactile feeling) then I have to go that route…but there has to be some solution out there?
Anyone have ideas? I am about ready to write to all the companies…”can you send me your pen…i want to do a test.”
